Chapter 2 - Making It Happen

While working fulltime in fashion, my days were filled with designing and making, but my evenings and weekends were just as much about fashion. Creating never stops for me. No matter how long my work weeks were, the urge to design, experiment, and make things with my hands was always there, and it still is.

I continued developing ideas simply because I loved it. It was my way of sharpening my skills, exploring techniques, and allowing myself creative freedom beyond my daily work. Some techniques weren’t part of my role at the time, but they fascinated me, and I wanted to keep learning and growing as a maker.

Over time, the focus on my own work became more intentional. What started as creating alongside my job slowly grew into the idea of building something of my own. The ongoing process of creation naturally led to my first collection of statement pieces. Garments designed with intention, character, and longevity in mind. Pieces that stand in contrast to the fast-paced, disposable nature of much of today’s fashion. I want to create items that feel special, personal, and made to last. Pieces I was excited to put out into the world.

Making the decision to start a label felt exciting, but also nerve-wracking, and in both ways, it still does. Starting a business means stepping into uncertainty, trusting your instincts, and allowing yourself to grow along the way. What kept pulling me forward was a clear sense of why I wanted to do this;

I believe clothing can be more than something we consume quickly or replace after a season. I want to create pieces that hold meaning, garments that are thoughtfully designed, carefully made, and worn with intention. Each piece is meant to make the person wearing it feel special, confident, and unique. With annajohanna, I design for people who love fashion and are consciously looking for something different. People who value quality, craftsmanship, and individuality. My work is for those who prefer fewer pieces, but better ones. Locally made, tailored, and created with attention to both the wearer and the process behind each garment.

Wearing Anna Johanna is a statement and reflection of creativity. I design not just for style, but to create garments that people cherish, that tell a story, and that stand the test of time. This is the heart of what I do, and it’s what drives me every day.

In my next blog post, I’ll take you behind the scenes; why my collections are limited, how the materials and craftsmanship shape each piece, and what makes them truly one-of-a-kind.
